Alcalá de Henares Day Trip
Come and explore the city northeast of Madrid with this Alcalá de Henares Day Trip. Disover Miguel de Cervantes' birthplace, and one of Spain's best-known writers.
Alcalá de Henares Day Trip
We'll depart from Madrid's Atocha Train Station at 9 am, where we'll find the famous work of art, 'Día y Noche', by Antonio López. Here we'll wait for the train that will take us to Alcalá de Henares, one of the 15 Spanish cities declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On arrival, the day will begin with a walking tour around the historic centre. The first stop will be the historic facade of its famous university, founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros.
The route will continue towards the Plaza de Cervantes. There you'll find one of its most important monuments. the Corral de Comedias. We'll travel back in time to the Spanish Golden Age, a time when works by the most famous writers of the time were presented on its boards: Lope, Calderón and Tirso.
But Alcalá de Henares has one outstanding star, Miguel de Cervantes. To get to know him a little better, let's go into his birthplace. In its different rooms, we'll find out about life in 17th century Spain, a golden age for art and a time of crisis for the population.
Following on, we'll go to the Cathedral of Alcalá and the Archbishop's Palace, two buildings that will enchant you. We'll also visit the medieval city walls.
The tour will end arriving at Atocha station at 2:30 pm.
